Week 2 Activities (August 29 - September 2): Part I Chapters 1 and 2

Hello AP Scholars,

This week we are finishing up part 1.

So far, you should have completed the following:

  • Second Thoughts questions on page 33
  • Questions 1-3 on p. 41
  • Questions 1-2 on p. 47
Here are this week's home learning assignments:
  • Monday evening: 
    • Annotate the College Board Curriculum Framework (your CB guide) pages 37 and 38 with notes from Part 1 chapters 1 (see an example here). Take notes on examples, key vocab, and other details to supplement the outline. 
    • Complete reading from class if not done (Part I Chapter 1)
  • Tuesday evening: 
    • Make flashcards for vocab on index cards. Bring cards to class to add notes. 
      • Vocab cards should have the term on the front, a definition in your own words on the back, and room for notes. 
    • Read pages 49-53 and annotate CB guide
  • Wednesday evening: Read 53-60
    • Work on vocab cards
    • annotate CB guide
  • Thursday evening: Read 61-67
    • finish vocab cards
    • annotate CB guide
    • answer questions on page 67
  • FRIDAY: STUDY FOR CHAPTER 1/2 QUIZ

Week 1 Home Learning and Links

As you get acclimated to the high school experience and to AP, please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or need assistance.

As a starting place for all AP (Advanced Placement) classes, first visit www.collegeboard.com/apcentral. For this course, please go to the course home page on the College Board's website http://apcentral.collegeboard.com/apc/public/courses/teachers_corner/4484.html, and download the 201-page course description. This document contains valuable information for the course.

Your home learning assignments for the week of 8/22/16 are as follows: 

1. Download CB Course Description. Visit the course home page at http://apcentral.collegeboard.com/apc/public/courses/teachers_corner/4484.html. Scroll down to the Essential Course Resources, and click on the big green box that says AP WORLD HISTORY COURSE AND EXAM DESCRIPTION.

2. Please print and bring pages  37 to 43 on Friday, if possible. I will have a few extra copies on hand.

3. Visit BEEP to view the e-book for this course: www.beep.browardschools.com

4. (Due Friday) Read Prologue: From Cosmic History to Human History of the the e-book and answer questions at the end (Second Thoughts).

5. (Due Monday) Read  Part 1, number 1: First People: Populating the Planet  and answer 1e: Second Thoughts.
